Frequently Asked Questions

How much do evaluations cost?

I have partnerships with several organizations in order to offer this evaluation at minimal, or no cost, to immigrants that are eligible. Eligibility requirements may change, so your attorney will need to inquire about options that may be available to you.

If you are not eligible for these programs, I still offer a reduced cost. Fees range from $800-$1,000 per evaluation, significantly less than a mental health professionals hourly billable rate. If there is a cost, 50% of the payment will be due at the start of the first session.  The remaining amount will be due at the last session.

Will I need an interpreter?

The evaluations are most effective when they provide a detailed account of your experience. Advanced English proficiency is often needed by the client. If you are eligible to enroll with partnership organizations, an interpreter will likely be provided at no cost to you. If you are not, you may need to a secure a quality interpreter, preferably one trained in medical interpretation and not a family member.

What can I expect?

Before your evaluation, your attorney will confirm the cost of the evaluation and whether you will need to secure your own interpreter.

You will be contacted by me or a caseworker to schedule your sessions. You will have anywhere from 1-4 sessions depending on your type of case, whether an interpreter is needed, and how challenging it is to tell your story.  Most sessions are 2 hours and will take place during regular business hours.

You will be asked to complete a work history, social history, and medical history intake form before the first session.

Please arrive on time for your evaluation with your completed forms and payment, if required. I will have you complete some questionnaires and ask about your history, including details of your trauma, and how you feel as a result of your experiences. For most clients this is really challenging and it is normal to feel stressed about this process. I will do everything possible to make the process feel safe, confidential, and in your control.

What happens after the evaluation is complete?

When the sessions are completed, I will write up your evaluation and submit it to your attorney in 10 business days. It is common for clients to feel more open about their story and ready to take steps towards healing after completing the evaluation. I am happy to assist you in finding additional mental health services.
